New Project for "Characterization and Modeling of the Information Retrieval Dialogue"

12.12.2012 -

The Collaborative Research Centre (Sonderforschungsbereich) Transregio (SFB/TRR) 62 on "A Companion-Technology for Cognitive Technical Systems" has been granted further financial support by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG). The second four-year funding period of the SFB/TRR approved in January 2013 has a volume of around nine million Euro. If successful, an extension until the end of 2020 is possible.

Established in 2009, the SFB/TRR comprises 60 scientists at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg, the Leibniz Institute for Neuroscience (LIN) and the University of Ulm.
They are driven by the question of how the interaction between human and machine, its neurobiological and psychological foundations, as well technical characteristics can be further elaborated. The aim is to create a technology that enables human users a whole new dimension of dealing with technical systems.

The interdisciplinary consortium of engineers, computer scientists, physicians, neurobiologists, and psychologists are following the vision that future technical systems will be companion systems. These are cognitive systems, which completely adapt their functionality for each individual user based on his abilities, preferences, requirements, current needs, and emotional state. They are always available, cooperative, and trustworthy and engage users as competent and cooperative service providers.
